Therapeutic Approach.

I offer an integrative therapeutic approach that combines psychodynamic and relational modalities with somatic-based and cognitive-behavioural therapies. My integration of approaches is shaped according to the needs and preferences of the individual.

Therapy is typically guided by a psychodynamic-informed framework that focuses on stabilising the self: deepening insight into and resolving unconscious inner conflicts, relational patterns, and the influences of past experiences. As required, I integrate skills-based, emotional, behavioral, and/or somatic techniques to manage symptoms that may be impacting your functioning and quality of life.

I am also currently training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy and am beginning to incorporate this into treatment for anxiety and trauma-based conditions as needed.

My therapeutic style is warm and grounded, and I believe it is important to bring levity and humor into our sessions where appropriate. I aim to create a respectful, collaborative relationship with my clients. It is important to me that, over time, you are able to trust me with both the lighter and darker parts of who you are. That is how change is possible.

Initial Therapy Sessions.

I approach the first three sessions as the 'assessment phase.' During these sessions, I gather important information from you about your primary concerns, goals for therapy, and history related to your development, relationships and interpersonal world, educational or vocational progression, and quality of life. By the end of the third session (sometimes the fourth), I will provide feedback on my initial thoughts and impressions and collaboratively develop an initial roadmap for our therapy sessions together.

This is also an important time for us to assess whether this is a helpful interpersonal fit. My therapeutic style may not suit everyone, and I believe it is incredibly important to find a therapist who is the right fit for you.

Timeframes.

I offer short-term interventions (6-10 sessions) that target a specific area of concern and can be tailored to the 10 sessions subsidised by Medicare per calendar year.

I also offer long-term therapy for deeper or more complex, and longstanding issues. Long-term therapy may often require weekly therapy sessions and for a greater period than 12 months.
